Things to Do in Banff

(That can be done During the Conference!)
  • Take in a play or a concert at the Banff Summer Arts Festival. The start of the BSAF coincides with the beginning of the meeting.
  • There are plenty of wilderness activities that one can enjoy in an afternoon in Banff National Park (although you might need a car to get to your destination).
  • Go hiking up Tunnel Mountain or to the Hoodoos. The trailheads for these hikes are not far from the Banff center.
  • Enjoy some of the art scattered around the Banff Center campus or go to the on-campus art museum (the Walter Phillips Gallery).
  • There are also a number of more commercial activities that one can enjoy in the Banff area, such as:
    • Shopping in the town of Banff (a 15 minute walk from the conference location).
    • Dining or drinking in the town of Banff (a 15 minute walk from the conference location).
    • Play a round of golf (you'll need transportation for this one).
    • Go Horseback Riding (again you'll probably need transportation).
    • Go Whitewater Rafting (transportation probably needed).
    • No trip to Banff is complete without a visit to beautiful Lake Louise & Moraine Lake (about a 40 minute drive North of Banff), or the Columbia Icefield (about 1.5 hours drive from Banff). You can rent a car or can take a tour offered by a company such as Brewster.
