First Announcement

The University of Calgary and the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics are hosting the 17th Kingston Meeting next spring entitled "Compact stars in the Rockies: Observations, Theory and Simulations".

The conference will be held in Banff (Alberta, Canada) on May 25-28 (Sunday-Wednesday) 2008. The conference is held following the 2008 CASCA meeting which will be held May 20-23 2008 in Victoria (British Columbia).

The main conference goal is to critically review the recent, major progress in our understanding of compact stars ranging from white dwarfs to black holes including neutron stars and other exotic compact objects. We also hope that the conference provides an opportunity for active work and collaboration between the program participants.

Conference Location

The conference will be held at the Banff Centre in the beautiful town of Banff located in (you guessed it) Banff National Park (A UNESCO World heritage site in the Canadian Rockies). The Banff Center is approximately a 15-20 minute uphill walk from downtown Banff.

One interesting facet of the meeting is that it coincides with the start of the Banff Summer Arts Festival. This festival draws artists from around the world (dancers, actors, musicians, singers etc.) and they will be living, eating, performing and practicing at various locations on the Banff Center Campus.
